womanrunningWe get it. Chafing happens to all of us and can make for days of discomfort. As the weather gets nicer, more of you will be hitting the pavement or trails. Avoid the discomfort by using these 7 tips:

  1. Expose your skin: Letting the chaffed area get some air will help it heal faster and will give you some relief. Even if you can’t during the day, wearing looser clothes while you sleep can really help air the area out.

  2. Choose chaff free fabrics: Go for soft cottons instead of harsher fabric like wool or other synthetics.

  3. Put a soothing cream on it: Try Neosporin or some other antibiotic. Shy away from Vaseline though. It can actually irritate the area more and it clogs your pores!

  4. Use baby powder: baby powder helps prevent rubbing and reduces friction by absorbing moisture.

  5. Watch your laundry: When you do laundry, make sure that the soap is thoroughly rinsed. Also try to use lighter detergents and softeners that can irritate your skin and worsen your chafing.

  6. Watch your Inseams: Try to avoid clothing with heaving inseams, especially when you work out. Wear loose clothes made of satiny material to help prevent chafing when working out.

  7. Clean the area well: Clean the area with a soap that won’t irritate it further. Don’t use anything with a heavy perfume or other irritants in it.
